Windows 7  -  Error 651
I recently bought a Packard Bell PC running Windows 7. Unfortunately, I have not been able to get it to connect to the Internet. A message is displayed stating "Error 651: The modem (or other connecting device) has reported an error" The Network Troubleshooter also states the "Local Area Connection" is experiencing driver or hardware related problems The Internet icon at the bottom right of the screen shows a large red X. When I click the same icon on my Windows Vista laptop however, it brings up a list of Wifi networks that are within range and I can select and connect to the Virgin Broadband connection that I use just be entering the password After some hours scratching my head trying to sort this one out, I completely reinstalled the operating system and software from scratch to bring everything back to the default factory settings. Unfortunately these problems still persist and the same error messages are displayed. Do you know what settings need to be changed to get this PC to work? Many thanks Pete

Hi, Is there a Wireless adapter on the Packard Bell PC? If so, you can perform the same steps just like on Windows Vista laptop. Otherwise, you have to connect to Internet via wired connection. At this stage, I suggest you open Device Manager and check whether there is any exclamation mark or question mark beside Network adapter. If so, please right click it and click “Update driver software”. If the issue persists, you may need download the latest driver from the manufacturer’s website.
